Josefa Gonzalez Mariscal Professional Profile

Josefa Gonzalez Mariscal is a fine and decorative arts appraiser and consultant. She grew up and studied in Mexico City and now resides in Houston, Texas. She is a former diplomat, representing the Mexican government in matters of cultural affairs. Josefa has lectured and published both in the USA and abroad. She has worked identifying artworks in legal cases, for Federal agencies. Josefa consults on foreign patrimony laws and provenance issues.

She has helped in the repatriation of illegally imported artistic and cultural artifacts to their country of origin. Josefa has been an expert witness in art authenticity and valuation legal case. Josefa is an alumna of the NYU Fine and Decorative Arts Appraisal Studies Program. She is an Accredited Member of the International Society of Appraisers and a Certified Member of the Appraisers Association of America. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Appraisers Association of America. She is Vice-President of the Board of DiverseWorks, a Houston based contemporary arts nonprofit.
